Student Spotlight Awards are given to Williamson County students who placed first in state or national competitions. Each Student Spotlight award winner is recognized before the School Board at their monthly meeting. Listed below are the district's Student Spotlight Award winners for the month of November.

Brentwood High Student's Art on Display at Frist

Artwork from Brentwood High School student Autumn Chang was selected for the Young Tennessee Artists exhibition at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville.

This bi-annual exhibition will showcase a selection of the finest artworks created in AP and IB Studio Art programs across Tennessee. Thirty-four drawings, paintings, photographs and mixed-media works were chosen from over 800 hundred submissions statewide.

The exhibit will run through April 21. Chang's teacher is Barbara Bullard.

Brentwood High Student's Art to be Featured at Frist

Lady Bruins Win State Soccer Title

The Brentwood High School girls soccer team defeated Siegel 1-0 in the Class AAA girls soccer final to win their first state championship since 1997.

Team members include Cammy Gilfillan, Morgan Ballek, Meg Howard, Mary Stewart Schwarz, Kelsey Moore, Jessi Bozzer, Jessi Kocina, Zoe Nuefeldt, Lena Nash, Jordan Chawan, Kaylie, Niehaus, Caroline McGee, Erica Ward, Ailsa Grant, Ann Peyton Diffenbaugh, Maggie Weir, Marie Alford, Kat Lee, AJ Roscoe, Dana Murray, Darby Kornman and Carrie Deese (manager). They are coached by Cal Long, Craig Long and Kersta Mello.

Brentwood Boys Cross Country Team Repeats as State Champs

The Brentwood High School boys cross country team repeated as Class AAA TSSAA state champs at Percy Warner Park's Steeplechase Course. They scored 52 points, winning the team title by nine.

Team members include Waqqas Fazili, Coleman Churitch, Aaron Thomas, Alec Thomas, Taylor Caldwell, Daniel Hamm and Ryan Lee. They are coached by Derek Youel.

BHS Cheerleaders Win State Title

The Brentwood High School cheerleaders have plenty to cheer about after winning the 2012 TSSAA state championship in the medium varsity division.

Team members include Mia Carillo, Haylie Craver, Allison Elliott, Grqce Ann Elliott, Mackenzie Johnson Mary Cate Keidel, Jacqueline King, Julie Knapp, Melissa Petrovich, Carly Pitts, Raye Pitts, Amber Robinson, Kyle Steele, Hayley Stevens, Taylor Tapp, Savannah Vessell and Rebecca Zadick. They are coached by Amanda Bicsak.

Centennial Cheerleaders Capture State Championship

The Centennial High School cheerleading squad won the 2012 TSSAA Large Varsity Cheerleading Championship.

Team members include Alex Ferrell, Alexandria Hall, Allison Bruning, Caitlyn Veon, Anna Morgan Mills, Bailey Bishop, Christina Eisner, Hailey Fisher, Karis Hicks, Taylor Norris, Sydney Gleason, Kelsie Clements, Claire Cheek, Abby Wheeler, Hannah Brennan, Kali Hicks, Sierra Johannes, Maggie Petty, Caroline Jones, Anne Tenkhoff, Abby Stubblefield and Leeanna Bond. They are coached by Nathan Mahy and Bari Lyn Staggs.

Centennial High Students Named to National Honor Choir

Five Centennial High School students were recently chosen to participate in the prestigious American Choral Directors National Honor Choir.

Addie Pollard, Abigail Edwards, Eddie Bosel, Amelia Edwards and Haley Frost will perform alongside other top singers from around the nation at the American Choral Directors National Conference in Dallas March 13-16. Their teacher is Mindy Hoover.

Fairview High Soccer Star Wins TN High School Heisman

Fairview High School student Celina Ferrell is a Heisman Trophy winner. The soccer standout was selected as the Wendy's High School Heisman winner for Tennessee.

The award is presented each year to one boy and one girl from each state in recognition of hard work, dedication and exceptional performance in athletics, academics and community leadership.

Ferrell helped Fairview reach the Region 6-A/AA semifinals this season, scoring 31 goals with three assists and finishing her career with 166 goals.

She will now compete against others from around the nation to be a national finalist.

Franklin High Cheerleaders Win State Championship

The Franklin High School cheerleading squad recently won the 2012 TSSAA state championship in the small varsity division.

Team members include Hallee Hurt, Rachel Sturm, Caroline Lagoski, Isabel Colombo, Sydney Sturm, Caitlin McFarland, Mary Prince, Katy Land, Britney Sams, Ansley Bancroft, Mackenzie Manion, Kristen Palmquist, Shelby Ferguson, Delany Porpora, Ann Claire Cook and Shannon Guthrie. They are coached by Jessica Clark and Nick Wilson.

Franklin High Students Named to National Honor Choir

Franklin High School students Emily Howell, Rachel Sharp, Ashley Nite and Jordan Newell have been selected to the American Choral Directors National Honor Choir. Each student auditioned for the part, competing against thousands of other high school singers from across the nation. They will perform at the group's national conference in Dallas March 13-16. Their teacher is Cindy Fehrman.

Ravenwood High Dance Team Wins State Title

The Ravenwood High School Dance Team won the 2012 TSSAA state championship in the large varsity jazz division.

Team members include Natalie Aaron, Quinn Needham, Chelsea Slay, Shelby Beevers, Madelyn Hopfensperger, Presley Hill, Morgan Stengel, Mackenzie Huelsmann, Stephanie Seibert, River Banks, Madie Hall, Carson Needham and Betsy Rice. They are coached by Kristen Payne and Kristen Hawk.

Ravenwood Girls Cross Country Team Repeats as State Champions

The Ravenwood High School girls cross country team repeated as Class AAA state champs. They scored 90 points to win the girls team title by 59.

Team members include Dabney Chitwood, Abby Finnegan, Hailey Erickson, Olivia Kuban, Julia Henderson, Sabrina Florey, Mary Glenn Goostree and Eleanor Leffler (alternate). They are coached by Pete Mueller.

Ravenwood Volleyball Team Wins Third Straight Championship

The Ravenwood High School volleyball team won its third straight Class AAA title October 26. The Lady Raptors rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Brentwood for the championship which was held at Middle Tennessee State University.

Team members include Alex Carter, Lauren DuPont, Santanna Patterson, Katee Nall, Kat Hutson, Dana Dusenbery, Taylor Briggs, Lindsey Knott, Alison Owczarski, Kelsey Sharber, Sara Schultz, Payton Logan, Sophia Cerino and Emily Svennevik. They are coached by Tracey Berry, Embrey Brannon, Rick Hess and CJ Pangallo. The team manager is Kiana Jones.
