Smooth Start to 2012-13 School Year

Published August 16, 2012

The start of the 2012-13 school year went off without a hitch!  Schools opened their doors to students with a half day August 10 and IN FOCUS was there to capture it all on VIDEO.

“The smooth start we experienced Friday is a testament to the hard work of our teachers and administrators," said WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney.  "These professionals have continued to learn, plan and prepare over the summer break for the arrival of students.  I am so proud of our teachers, administrators and staff, and I’m looking forward to a school year filled with excellence in academics, the arts and athletics.”

Now that the school year has begun, parents are encouraged to keep informed about their child's school and the district as a whole.  In addition to reading IN FOCUS for the latest WCS news, parents can also follow us on TWITTER and like us on FACEBOOK.  It's also important that parents make sure their contact information is up-to-date with their child's school so they receive phone notification and email alerts.

Many schools will hold open house events in the coming days.  Parents should use this occasion to get to know their child's teacher.  In addition, parent-teacher conferences will be here before long, which is why now is a good time to mark this IMPORTANT DATE on your calendar.

Feel free to contact us here at IN FOCUS with any questions you may have and we'll answer them in the RUMOR MILL.  Thank you to everyone for helping WCS get off to a great start.  Now let's make the 2012-13 school year the best ever!
