Schools Receive Mini-Grants for Health Plans
Published January 24, 2013
More than a dozen Williamson County schools are being rewarded for their plan to improve wellness and create a healthy school environment.
In October, schools were given the opportunity to submit a school health plan to the district's Coordinated School Health (CSH) program. These plans outline what each school is doing to support a number of health-related topics including health education, health services and staff wellness.
The top 15 school plans were then chosen to receive CSH mini-grants, which range from $1,500 to $250. In all, CSH gave $12,000 to these schools in support of their school health plans. The schools can use the money to purchase items that would improve any of the areas listed in their school health plan.
Below are the 15 schools which received CSH mini-grants:
- Brentwood High School
- Brentwood Middle School
- Crockett Elementary
- Franklin High School
- Grassland Elementary
- Grassland Middle School
- Independence High School
- Nolensville Elementary
- Oak View Elementary
- Scales Elementary
- Sunset Elementary
- Sunset Middle School
- Walnut Grove Elementary
- Winstead Elementary
- Woodland Middle School
In March, schools will have another opportunity to receive mini-grants through participation in Walk Across Williamson. This is an annual event to promote activity in our schools and our community. Participants will track their activity on a log and turn it in to their schools. The schools with the most participation will be eligible to receive mini-grants for their schools.
