School Safety a Main Topic at Recent Meeting

Published February 7, 2013

PTO Presidents from across the district gathered January 31 for a quarterly meeting with Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. The sessions provide an opportunity for sharing district information with parent leaders and principals. They also give parents the opportunity to ask questions of district leadership.

Some of the topics that were discussed at this most recent meeting included digital citizenship, an update on construction projects, the county's new Invest Now initiative and an update of the strategic plan.

In addition, Michael Dorn, executive director of Safe Havens International, spoke with leaders. Dorn is conducting an external safety audit of WCS and spoke to the parents about school safety and security.

Dorn explained the process his organization uses when conducting an assessment of this magnitude and how the results of such an audit can be used to further improve school safety. To learn more about this process, select this LINK to watch our interview with Michael Dorn.

The PTO Presidents will meet again later this semester and they will be asked to bring the school’s incoming president to the session.
