Published June 28, 2013

Veteran educator Paula Waits has been named Principal of Nolensville Elementary School. Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney made the announcement June 17.

“With more than 20 years experience in the classroom, Paula is a seasoned educator whose knowledge and experience will serve the Nolensville community well," said Looney. "She is a proven leader who will continue to build on the excellence that is already in place at Nolensville."

Waits has served as Assistant Principal at Oxford Middle School in Oxford, Alabama, since 2011. Prior to that time, she worked as a teacher in fourth, fifth and sixth grades.

"I am extremely excited and honored to become a part of the Williamson County School System as principal of Nolensville Elementary," said Waits. "Over the past 22 years, I have been blessed to fulfill what I consider a calling to teach children while at the same time personally embarking on an exciting journey as a lifelong learner. Throughout my career, the simple but profound philosophy of, 'A child will never care how much you know, until they know how much you care,' has developed into a way of life for me. My passion for helping each individual child realize their educational and personal potential, while nurturing their self-confidence, has made for a very rewarding profession."

"As the incoming principal of Nolensville Elementary, I commit to fully embrace this amazing opportunity to collaborate with the teachers, parents and students to meet the needs of each individual student," said Waits. "My hope is that, as a team, we will work together to help each student develop into creative-thinking individuals, as well as provide the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them for their next stage of learning. I look forward to becoming a part of Nolensville and will strive to continue providing a safe, meaningful and positive learning environment for the children of an established, excellent learning community."

Waits earned her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education and her Master’s in Elementary Education at Jacksonville State University. She will take over the role of Nolensville's principal on July 1.
