New Club for Students Interested in Skateboarding

Published November 29, 2012

A new after school club is giving Fairview Middle School students a chance to pursue their interest in skateboarding. The club is called Skateless of Fairview and consists of 12 seventh and eighth grade students with skate board skills ranging from beginner to intermediate.

In order to be a member, a student must be passing all of his or her classes and maintain positive behavior in the classroom. The club meets once a week, giving members a chance to organize skate sessions at area skate parks. The students also use that time to talk about skateboarding, watch videos and hang out together as a group while being supervised by club sponsor, Rachel Young.

Over Thanksgiving Break, Skateless of Fairview had students compete at the Brentwood YMCA skate competition and had a skate session at Jim Warren Skate Park in Franklin. Organizers say the club is a great way to encourage students to participate in a physical activity that is meaningful to them.
