Local Schools Compete for $50,000
Published October 25, 2012
Two Williamson County schools need your help winning money for their expanding band programs.
Hillsboro School in Leiper's Fork and Spring Station Middle School in Spring Hill have been nominated for Clorox's Power a Bright Future Program, which offers seven prizes of up to $50,000 to schools across the nation.
Both schools' band programs were founded within the past two years and have seen incredible growth. Hillsboro's band is expected to instruct more than 40 percent of the school's students next year, while Spring Station's band has doubled in size and quickly outpaced its allotted funding. Both schools would use the money to purchase instruments, equipment and private tutoring scholarships.
More than 2,500 schools are entered in the competition, and more than 400 are entered in the arts category, including Hillsboro and Spring Station. Voting begins November 5 and goes until December 12. Winners will be announced in late December.
To vote, select either Hillsboro or Spring Station on the program's WEBSITE. Voting is limited to one vote per person per day throughout the voting period.
