Kindergarten Registration Information
Published Februray 21, 2013
Kindergarten registration will take place during the first week of April in Williamson County Schools, and there are changes to the State law regarding kindergarten eligibility.
Beginning with the 2013-14 school year, all children must be five years of age on or before August 31, 2013, to attend kindergarten. Last year the eligibility date was September 30.
“We want to make sure our parents know about the change in State law which moved birthday eligibility to August 31,” said Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools Denise Goodwin. “We are sharing this information using all of our communication tools.”
Students who qualify to start kindergarten next year will follow the same registration process by going to their zoned school and providing the materials needed for registration. Parents will complete the process online at the school.
Parents will need to bring their child’s certified birth certificate, all shot records and proof of residence with them. To find out which school your child is currently zoned or for additional enrollment information, visit the district WEBSITE.
A request for a readiness assessment for early entrance to school will be available at the school only for those parents of children who will turn five during the month of September.
“Our schools will be assessing the readiness of students eligible for early entrance to school,” said Goodwin. “Williamson County Schools has a nationally standardized, research based kindergarten readiness assessment tool that will be used, but it will only be for those students who will turn five in September and whose parents request the assessment.”
WCS Kindergarten Readiness Assessment Process:
Parents of children with September birthdays must request the readiness assessment at their presently zoned school. Parents will be asked for proof of residency.
Each school will notify parents of the date and time for assessment administration.
A child may only be readiness assessed ONE time prior to the start of school. WCS will keep a record of early assessed children.
After the assessment session, parents will receive a letter indicating whether or not their child can register for the 2013-14 school year along with a summary of the assessment’s results.
