CHS Volunteers Celebrate Great Day of Service

Published May 3, 2013

More than 100 volunteers participated in the Centennial High School Football team’s second annual Day of Service on Saturday, April 22.

This year’s event brought together a variety of participants, including football team members, football parents, the CHS coaching staff and five area companies. Volunteers contributed over 300 hours of service to the Franklin area.

“From a coaching perspective, we think it is important to teach young men the value of reaching out and doing something for our community,” said Centennial Head Football Coach Brian Rector. “We do this volunteer day because it’s the right thing to do. Football is more than X’s and O’s. We want to teach our players about life."

The 100 volunteers staffed five separate work sites and partnered with area businesses to perform the following service activities.

At Wild Wings Café and Culver’s, the volunteers held car washes to benefit Franktown Open Hearts.

At Whole Foods, the volunteers held a car wash with donations going to the Whole Planet Foundation.

At Beacon Financial Services, the volunteers helped staff a Community Shred Day at Beacon Financial Services. Volunteers carried seven thousand pounds of paper to the mobile shredder.

At Centennial High School, the volunteers partnered with Kohl’s Cares Foundation and Kohl’s team members to landscape and mulch the Centennial High School campus.

Those who took part in this special event say it's great to see students getting involved and wanting to make a difference in their community.

“Giving back to the community is part of good sportsmanship," said CHS rising sophomore Rasean McLemore. "It's also part of being a good team member."
