Centennial Students Showcase Gingerbread Creations

Published November 29, 2012

Each year, students at Centennial High School compete to see who can come up with the best gingerbread house. It's part of a competition among drafting and architecture students in Tim Sawyer and Rachel Allen's classes.

Participants are allowed to work in teams and are given a couple of weeks to design and build their own gingerbread house. Each team must also come up with a theme for the house.

Once the homes are finished, they are put on display at the annual Centennial High Holiday Craft Show where visitors can vote on the one they like best. The houses are also available for purchase at the show.

Although it's a lot of hard work, Centennial Senior Karis Hicks says the gingerbread house competition is one of the most entertaining projects she's worked on at CHS.

"I'm going to miss it a lot because it's a lot of fun," said Hicks. "It helps to have a different project to do with our friends that are in the same class so it's really exciting."
