More than two dozen Brentwood High School students will compete this year to see who can best interpret the beauty and scope of William Shakespeare's language. The annual National Shakespeare Competition will kick off February 13 at BHS with 26 students scheduled to participate.
Judges for the competition are Matt Grimes, Jean Kline-Kracht and Lee Huddleston from the BHS English Department. The winner will represent Brentwood High at the Nashville Branch Competition with a chance to earn an all-expenses-paid-trip to New York City for the national competition.
The National Shakespeare Competition is sponsored by the English Speaking Union and is designed to help high school students develop their speaking skills as they explore the beauty and timeless themes in Shakespeare's works. The competition requires students to read, interpret and perform monologues and sonnets in three qualifying stages.
