Ravenwood Dance Team Wins Leadership Award at UDA Camp

The 2013-2014 Ravenwood High School Varsity Dance Team won several awards at this year's Universal Dance Association camp in Birmingham. The team was awarded the coveted Leadership Award, received the highest ranking of Superior Trophy and their home routine received second place overall.

In addition, some individuals received Pin It Forward awards, all team members won Blue Ribbons for routines and the three captains were chosen for the UDA All American Team.

Intended to kick-off the dance program for the upcoming school year, UDA camps are designed to strengthen the skills of high school teams by teaching advanced technique and choreography. Competitive high school teams from across the Southeast attend to prepare for both high school performances and competitions.

“Over the course of the camp, the girls are expected to learn an extensive amount of material in a short period of time," said RHS Dance Team Coach and Choreographer Kirstin Hawk. "This is both physically and mentally challenging.”

The RHS Dance Team has won the State Championship title in the Jazz category six times since the team was formed 11 years ago. Captains for this year's team are Stephanie Seibert, Keely Paxton and Morgan Stengel.
