Franklin High Student Wins Highest Girl Scout Honor
Congratulations to Franklin High Senior Katie Smitherman who was recently named a recipient of the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award. The award, which requires a minimum of 80 hours of community service towards a sustainable project, is awarded to less than five percent of eligible girl scouts each year.
For her project, Katie renovated a dilapidated and abandoned train caboose which had once served as a children's playground. She coordinated a team of 30 volunteers who put in over 550 hours of work to replace the wood paneling, repaint the interior and exterior and replace the wooden benches and stove.
Page High Theater Department Named Top Performers
Page High School accepted the Top Performers trophy after receiving the highest overall scores at the first ever WCS Musical Theater Competition May 10.
Six Williamson County high schools participated in the competition this spring which was created by the WCS theater teachers. Three judges were invited to attend all six spring musicals and provide individual school scores and feedback.
The schools that participated were Centennial, Fairview, Independence, Page, Ravenwood and Summit high schools.
Ravenwood Wins Boys & Girls Rugby Championships
The Ravenwood High School boys and girls rugby teams swept the Tennessee State Championships in May. The boys defeated South Doyle by a score of 34-5 to win the title while the girls beat Maryville 12-7 for their championship. This marks the first time any program has captured both the boys and girls rugby championships.
