Below is a list of recent accomplishments by Williamson County students in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts. They are listed in alphabetical order according to school.
Brentwood High Students Compete at Science Olympiad State Contest
Seventeen Brentwood High School students participated in the Tennessee State Science Olympiad competition on Saturday, April 6. The competition, which was hosted at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, included 18 high schools from around the state.
BHS participants included Omeed Noorbakhsh, Emy Han, Aishu Pillai, Philip Ooi, Lisa Qu, Maria Rapisarda, Charlotte Moore, Michael Fang, Kimberly Eddleman, Joyce Kang, Austin Southard-Smith, Matt Contini, Jimmy Dai, Annie Roberson, Akash Oza, Olenka Galaska and Luke Donahue.
Several BHS students earned individual medals for their competition events including Jimmy Dai, Matt Contini, Joyce Kang, Kimberly Eddleman, Luke Donahue, Austin Southard-Smith, Annie Roberson, Akash Oza and Philip Ooi.
Their coaches are Roberto Marrero, Nick Wang and Ashley Seth.
Centennial High Media Students Win THSPA Awards
Congratulations to the CHS Broadcast Team for their recent wins at the Tennessee High School Press Association state 2013 awards. The Broadcast Team made up of Caleb Simons and Tarrik Walker, won third place in the Public Service Announcement category for their production of Kick The Can.
The Mornin Rawr Team also won third place in the Best Television Station category. Some of the media students working on the Mornin Rawr were Camille Gear, Cody Iler, Tyler Lampley, Ethan Levy, Patrick Mills, Zach Moran, Erin Nighan, Tori Presley, Kevon Prince, Grant Rittenberry, Owen Roth, Tevin Smith and Milan Zanussi.
CHS also won an Honorable Mention for the online documentary CHS Drafting with Tim Sawyer which was produced by Toby Renfrow. Centennial High School's media and film teacher is Dawn Marek.
Edmondson Chess Team Among Best in State
Check-mate! That's a phrase members of the Edmondson Elementary School chess team are used to saying. The team, which is comprised of fourth graders Parker Kasiewicz, Nelson Rose, Joseph McDugald and Launna Atkinson, won fourth place at the State Elementary Division for Grades 4-6 Tournament in Cookeville March 23.
Fairview Middle Athlete Named Wrestling All American
Fairview Middle School seventh grader Joshua Ortiz-Derrick took first place at the 2013 AAU Middle School Tennessee State wrestling tournament in the 180 lb. weight division. After winning the Tennessee State Tournament, Joshua was invited to the 2013 AAU Middle School National Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, held April 13-14.
At Nationals, Ortiz-Derrick wrestled in the 189 lb. division and went undefeated on Saturday. On Sunday, Ortiz-Derrick made it to the championship match and finished runner up in double overtime. Leaving the tournament with a record of 7-1, Joshua Ortiz-Derrick is the 2013 AAU Middle School Nationals Runner Up and was also titled 2013 AAU Middle School Nationals Duals All American.
Joshua's coaches at Fairview Middle are James Derrick, Tom Herring and Don Barnett.

Franklin High Lady Rebels Lacrosse Team Wins Tournament
The Franklin High School Lady Rebels Lacrosse team won the Dan Anderson Lacrosse Tournament in Birmingam, Alabama April 13-14. They beat teams from Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee. The team consists of freshmen, sophomores and juniors.
Franklin High Students Compete at Science Olympiad State Contest
The Franklin High School Science Olympiad Team recently competed at the University of Tennessee State Competition in Knoxville.
The team is comprised of Grace Calhoun, Anna Solsvig, Kat Olson, Darren Liu, Christina Gore, Hayden Pirrera, Jake Marotta, Rachel Schultz, Tianrui Dong, Christopher Smith, Ashton Nagy, Sam Albert, Trey Cunningham, Jacob Dubin and Chandler Sisco. They competed in 23 different events against 18 other high schools from the state of Tennessee.
Each event awarded medals for the top six team scores. FHS students received multiple medals in different events. The medal recipients were:
Grace Calhoun and Chris Smith - 4th place in Astronomy
Rachel Schultz and Tianrui Dong - 4th place in Disease Detectives
Kat Olson and Christina Gore - 6th place in Dynamic Planet
Darren Liu and Tianrui Dong - 6th place in Forensics
Chris Smith and Sam Albert - 5th place in Technical Problem Solving

Franklin High Students Recognized at State Math Teachers Competition
Congratulations to the Franklin High School students who placed at this year's State Math Teachers Competition at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.

Hillsboro Students Earn Honors at Math Competition
Hillsboro Middle School students Will Henke, Zachary Jackson and Hunter Jones participated in the MBA 6th Grade Math Invitational at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville.
The team finished fourth overall out of 20 schools and were able to place a big, beautiful trophy in the Hillsboro School trophy case. Additionally, Will Henke placed fourth out of 60 participants in the individual competition.
Hillsboro School Band Recognized
The Hillsboro School Band scored an Excellent rating at the MTSBOA Concert Performance Assessment, just one step under the highest rating possible. This is the first time Hillsboro has participated in the event. Of the 60 students that took part in the assessment, nearly 20 had never played their instrument prior to August of this school year.

Ravenwood Pre-Calculus Team Takes First Place
Congratulations to the Ravenwood High School Pre Calculus team for winning first place at the Interscholastic Math League competition this year. Members include Meredith Lutzak, Sruthi Madhu, Christopher Nicastro, Aditya Sathe and Stanley Xiang.
Ravenwood Students Place Second in Division at TCJL Convention
Ravenwood High School students performed exceptionally well at the recent Tennessee Junior Classical League Convention in Murfreesboro. The school placed second overall in its division. School and individual awards include:

Alison Gibson - 1st place in Costume Female Mythological, 1st place in 9th Grade Poetry and 1st place in Graphic Arts/Acrylics and Oils

Gene Li - 4th place in 10th Grade Poetry
Megan McCarter - 5th place in Derivatives Level II and 3rd place in Graphic Arts/Photography
Rohan Tummala - 1st place in Derivatives Level I, 5th place in Grammar Level I, 1st place in Principal Parts Bee, 3rd place in Reading Comprehension Level I, 4th place in Vocabulary Level I

RHS Students Earn High Rankings on National Latin Exam
Congratulations to the following Ravenwood High School students for their performance on the National Latin Exam.
Latin I: Rohan Tummala, Amy Ouyang, Hannah Belcher, Emily Berexa, Preston Johnston, Lauren Birge and Heather Hernandez
Latin II: Simon Lowen, Gene Li and Andrew Duncan
Latin III: Reece Boyd, who now qualifies to compete for a $1000 NLE scholarship for earning a gold medal on a Latin III or above NLE his senior year.
Ravenwood Athlete Wins Award for Pole Vault
Congratulations to Ravenwood High School's Justin Lankes. He was the recipient of the Bill Etheridge Award at this year's Doug Hall Relays.
The award was given to Lankes for most outstanding male performance in the pole vault. His official height was 14 feet six inches.
RHS Softball Team Wins Tournament
Congratulations to the Ravenwood High School softball team for winning first place in the Franklin Sonic Tournament at Fly Park. Ravenwood was the only team to go undefeated in the 24-team competition.
Woodland Middle Students Compete at Science Olympiad
Woodland Middle School's competitive science team returned from the State Science Olympiad Tournament at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with several individual awards.
Emily Berexa and Rhea Jaisinghani both earned two awards by placing second in Crime Busters and fifth in Write It/Do it.
Young-Rae Kim and Max Behling earned a fifth place award in the event Shock Value; Kaitlyn Mi and Stacey Xiang came away with a third place award in Meteorology.
Woodland Middle Has Strong Showing at Math Contest
The Woodland Middle School algebra and geometry recently teams competed in the last Interscholastic Math Contest.
The Algebra team, represented by Ray Lee, Stacey Xiang, Sithara Samudrala, Nayan Chavan, Rohan Kunchala and Nathaniel Croft, placed third.
The Geometry team, represented by Eric Lu, Patrick Fallon, Chiraag Kaushik, Young Rae Kim and Vamsi Konjeti, placed second.
Individually, Eric Lu placed fourth overall and Vamsi Konjeti placed third. The Quiz Bowl team of Ray Lee, Stacey Xiang, Eric Lu and Chiraag Kaushik placed second overall for the year.
