Below is a list of recent accomplishments by Williamson County students in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts. They are listed in alphabetical order according to school.
WCS JROTC Students Receive Honors
Six Williamson County students were recently honored for their outstanding leadership qualities. The students were recognized during a ceremony March 24 by the Andrew Crocket Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Each student is a member of the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp, which is a federal program sponsored by the United States Armed Forces in high schools across the nation.
Those recognized were Cadet CPT Cameron Drury, Franklin High School JROTC; Cadet MAJ Jonathan Collins, Independence High School JROTC; Cadet CPT Kaleb Keene, Ravenwood High School JROTC; Cadet 1LT Brock Bolton, Page High School JROTC; Cadet 2LT Toby Renfrow, Centennial High School JROTC; and Cadet CSM Ashley Coots, Fairview High School JROTC.
Bethesda Students Raise $800 for Charity
Congratulations to Bethesda Elementary School students Claudette Runk, Autumn Pause, Ashley Miller, Alex Runk and Mattie Smith. They are members of the Bethesda Elementary DI group called F.A.C.E (Find and Care for Everyone). They worked together to raised more than $800 for the Ronald McDonald House of Nashville.
Brentwood Middle Student Wins American History Essay Contest
Brentwood Middle School eighth grader Hannah Peeler recently won the annual American History essay contest sponsored by the Sarah Polk Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The topic of this year's essay was focus on the groups who provided military, patriotic and public service in support of the American Revolution. Students had to describe a particular person or group and how they supported the cause for American independence and explain why it is important to honor the often forgotten patriots.
CHS Hockey Team Finishes Season Ranked Eighth in Nation
Congratulations to the Centennial High School hockey team for an outstanding season that ended with them finishing in the top eight at Nationals. It was the first time a Tennessee team has finished a season ranked so high.
The Cougars were ousted from the USA Nationals in Florida following a 5-2 loss to top-seeded Santa Margarita, California, in the quarterfinals. CHS fought hard despite having three of their top players sidelined.
"The final game of the season is always a tough one but so proud of this group of young men that finished eighth in nation," tweeted CHS Head Coach Mark Layne after the game. "They were a pleasure to coach!"
In addition to their great run at Nationals, the Cougars were also the regular-season champion of the Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey (GNASH) league.

Fairview Middle Students Win Big at TSA State Conference
Several Fairview Middle School students came away from this year's Technology Student Association (TSA) state conference with trophies in hand.
The TSA is a student organization that's open to students enrolled in or who have completed technology education courses. TSA’s membership includes over 180,000 middle and high school students in 2,000 schools spanning 48 states.
This year's state conference was held March 14 in Chattanooga. Listed below are the Fairview Middle students who won awards. Their advisor is Sara Reynolds.

Franklin High Wind Ensemble Shines at Festival
The Franklin High School Wind Ensemble received straight superior ratings at the recent MTSBOA Concert Performance Assessment. They were one of only four bands that received straight superiors at the Tullahoma site.
Heritage Middle Student to Compete at TN National Geographic Bee
Heritage Middle School eighth grader Rachael DeBoe is one of the semifinalists to compete in this year’s Tennessee National Geographic Bee. This is the 25th anniversary of the Google and Plum Creek sponsored Bee.
Rachael competed against students at Heritage Middle and took a qualifying test which she scored in the top 100 of all participants nationwide. The state level Bee will be held Friday, April 5 at the Martin Professional Development Center in Nashville.
Independence Students Receive Art Awards
Four Independence High School students received awards for the Art on the Rise show at St. Andrew-Sewanee School. Preston Crisco and Noelle Dederer won the Merit Award; Abbie Hardin received the award for Best Landscape; and Sarah Rivera won the award for Best Color Printmaking. St. Andrew's-Sewanee School invited teachers and students of nine schools to submit up to 20 pieces of art.
Kenrose Student Wins Blue Ribbon in Arbor Day Poster Contest
Sydney Sinclair at Kenrose Elementary won the Arbor Day poster contest at her school for an acrylic painting of a pine tree on posterboard and then went on to win a first place blue ribbon from all Williamson County school third grade submissions.
The artwork is currently being displayed at the Brentwood Library, and she will be presented with her ribbon and a cash prize at the Brentwood Library’s Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 6.
Page High Students Shine at TSA State Conference
Page High School students showed off their tech-savvy ways at the 2013 Technology Student Association state conference in Chattanooga.
The TSA is a student organization that's open to students enrolled in or who have completed technology education courses. TSA’s membership includes over 180,000 middle and high school students in 2,000 schools spanning 48 states.
Below is a list of the Page High students who won awards at this year's state conference. The five first place teams qualified to compete at nationals June 28-July 2. Their advisors are Jimmy Baker and Beth Foreman.

Ravenwood Students Win Awards in Arbor Day Essay Contest
Congratulations to the following Ravenwood High School AP English III students who placed in the Arbor Day Essay Contest:

2nd place: Colleen Leyer
3rd place: Nikhil Basutkar
Sarah will be asked to read her essay at the Arbor Day event April 6 at the Brentwood Library.

RHS Winter Drumline Earns Recognition at Recent Contest
The Ravenwood High School Winter Drumline competed against 12 other drumlines from across the country March 24 at the World Guard International Mid-South Percussion Championships in Bowling Green.
The Raptors took first place in Scholastic A with a top score of 87.775. They are also ranked number one in the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit Scholastic A. Both the Ravenwood Drumline and Colorguard will compete April 6 in the SCGC Championships at Belmont.

Spring Station Softball Team Wins Tournament Title
Congratulations to the Spring Station Middle School softball team for winning the Columbia Academy Tournament championship. They defeated Forrest School by a score of 5-2 in the title game March 16.

Summit High Teacher Named News 2 Educator of the Week
Congratulations to Summit High School Teacher Dee Dee Montgomery. She was recently named the News 2 Educator of the Week. In addition to teaching science, Montgomery is also the school's bowling coach.

Sunset Middle Track Teams Win Relay Competition
The Sunset Middle School boys and girls track and field teams finished first at this year's Scott Hartman Relays. The SSMS boys are now back-to-back SHR champs and this SSMS girls team is Sunset's first to win the SHR. Their coaches are Andrea Wax, Mindy Bishop, DeRon Jenkins, Brian Gallagher, Renee Dooley, Wayne Dickey and Phil Castillo.
