Below is a list of recent accomplishments by Williamson County students in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts. They are listed in alphabetical order according to school.
Bethesda Students Compete in Williamson County 4-H Contest
Numerous Bethesda Elementary School fifth graders recently competed in the Williamson County 4-H Speech Contest. Addison Landers placed fourth; Katelyn Helberg placed third; McKayla Marlin placed fifth; Christian Nelson placed second; Ellie Driver placed second; Diana Valdez placed fifth; Kayla Miller placed first and Aidan Broome placed fourth.
Brentwood High Student Finishes Second at Regional Shakespeare Contest
Brentwood High School's Lily Norton was named the First Runner-up at the Regional Finals of the National Shakespeare Competition.
After winning the local competition at Brentwood High School, Lily went on to compete against other contestants across the region.
Each contestant was required to perform 20 lines of a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays and a Shakespearian sonnet. Lily was Helena from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Her teacher is Lee Huddleston.
Centennial High Cheerleaders Earn National Recognition
Congratulations to the Centennial High School junior varsity competition cheerleaders (pictured below) for placing second at the UCA National High School Cheer Competition held in Orlando, Florida February 9. Centennial High's varsity cheerleaders placed fourth at the same event.
Centennial High Athletes Sign College Letters of Intent

Edmondson Students Win Basketball Championship
These girls have game! A team of Edmondson Elementary third graders finished undefeated and won the U10 YMCA Advanced League Basketball Championship.
Fairview High Freshman Finishes Fourth at Regional Shakespeare Contest
Fairview High School Freshman Brooklyn Beique represented Fairview High this past weekend at the Regional Shakespeare Competition. She placed fourth and earned a special commendation from the nationally renowned judges.
The competition requires contestants to perform 20 lines of a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays. The students are then judged according to their understanding of the monologue as well as their communication and expression of the material.
Not only is Brooklyn the only freshman to win at the school-level, but she was the only freshman to compete at the regional contest.
Fairview Middle School Student Wins Speech Contest
Fairview Middle School eighth grader Trey Boone won first place at this year's Tennessee Association of Student Council State Convention Speech Contest.
Trey delivered his speech to an auditorium filled with more than 700 people and received a standing ovation from the crowd at the conclusion of the speech. The theme of his speech was Live Every Day Like It's Game Day.
According to his teachers, Trey carries himself each day with great enthusiasm and passion for his fellow students and his school.
Franklin High Wins History Bowl Competition
Franklin High School won first place at this year's Sarah Bayrd Memorial History Bowl. This was the first year FHS has participated in the event, which is a Jeopardy-style American history quiz show that is televised.
Franklin High finished first with 20,500 points, followed by Brentwood High with 18,300 points and Ravenwood High with 5,500 points. Members of the Franklin High team include Nicole Chambers, Sydney Fobare, Alyssa Hoover and Kyle Turner.
FHS Choirs to Perform at State Choral Festival
The Chamber Chorus and Capriccio Women’s Ensemble recently performed and the MTVA Choral Festival. They finished ranked fourth and eighth out of 67 choirs with the Chamber Choir being one of only four choirs to get a superior in sight reading. They will be moving on to the Sate Choral Festival on April 24.
Franklin Students Advance in Linguistics Olympiad
Congratulations to Franklin High School students Jonathan McClung and McKenzie Bottoms for placing in the top 10 percent of the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad. They competed against nearly 1700 students in the US and Canada and now qualify for the Invitational Round.
The top 10 US students at the Invitational Round will be invited to join the US team for the international competition.
FHS Early Childhood FCCLA Members Advance to State Tournament
Congratulations to the following members of the school's Family Community and Career Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapter for advancing to the state competition on April 2.

Rebels Win Most Medals at High School Academic Competition
Franklin High School came away from this year's High School Academic Competition at Columbia State Community College with the most medals of any school. FHS also received more first place medals than any of its competitors.
This annual event is a state-wide competition in 16 subject areas ranging from Algebra II to vocal performance. Below is a list of the Franklin High School students who received awards at this year's event:

Franklin High Wrestler Places Second at State Tournament
Franklin High School Senior Alex Bennett is a force to be reckoned with on the wrestling mat. Just ask his opponents at this year's TSSAA State Tournament. Bennett finished second in the 152 lb. weight class.
Bennett was one of nine FHS wrestlers who qualified for this year's state tournament. He won the regional championship in the 152 lb. weight division.
Franklin High Student Qualifies for Skills USA State Competition
Franklin High School Senior Evan Lojacono will be among the students competing at this year's Skills USA state competition. Evan qualified for the tournament by placing second in the architectural drafting category at the regional competition in Nashville.
Independence High School Student Receives DECA Award
Independence High School Student Chase Swayze was recently chosen to receive the DECA Emerging Leader Honor Award, which recognizes DECA members studying marketing, finance, hospitality and management. The award is given each year to a DECA student who is academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible and an experienced leader. Chase's marketing teacher is Wren Anderson.
Independence Finishes Third at Forensics Tournament
The Independence High School Forensics Team won third place in sweeps for Debate at the Smoky Mountain Invitational meet in Gatlinburg. Courtney Smith also won Best Speaker.
More Honors for Ravenwood Forensics Team
The Ravenwood High School Forensics Team placed first in overall points sweepstakes at the National Forensics League Qualifying Tournament at Brentwood High. In addition, the following students qualified for the national competition this summer by placing in the top three in their category.

Ravenwood Team Takes First Place at Regional Chemistry Olympiad
The Ravenwood High School Science Olympiad Team 1 took first place honors at the Regional Chemistry Olympiad. Members include Frances Ding, Zach Glick, Niman Mann and A.J. Wei. Ding and Mann got the top score in the mystery/inquiry-based lab. Ding was also the top scorer for the entire competition.
Ding and Jordan Widjaja will represent Ravenwood in the National Chemistry Olympiad Exam. Only the top ten students at the event are invited to participate; however no school can have more than two students.
Chemistry Olympiad is multi-tiered competition. The first tier is the Regional; the second tier is the National Exam; the third tier is an all-expense paid trip to the Air Force Academy for a chemistry study camp; and the fourth tier is an all-expense paid trip to the International Tournament.
The International Tournament will be held this year in Moscow, Russia. The American Chemical Society sponsors Chemistry Olympiad.
Ravenwood Science Bowl Teams Finish Third and Fourth at State Tournament
The Ravenwood High School Science Bowl teams racked up at this year's State Science Bowl. The two RHS teams finished third and fourth, winning $500 and $250. They competed against 55 teams from around the state, with no school allowed more than two teams.
The third place team consisted of RHS students Venkata Amarthaluru, Frances Ding, Niman Mann and Ashwin Sundaram. The fourth place winners are John Asirvatham, Jordan Widjaja, Eric Yang, Nishant Subramani, Gene Li.
Ravenwood Students Recognized at Regional DECA Competition
Seven Ravenwood High School students won first place honors at this year's Regional DECA competition. DECA is a student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Sunset Middle Eighth Grader Wins Awards at History Day Contest
Sunset Middle School eighth grader Tejas Manohar knows a thing or two about computers. Not only did he design the winning smartphone app for the district's recent contest, but he also won the award for Best Individual Website at the Middle Tennessee District National History Day contest in Murfreesboro.
In addition, Tejas won the Judy Butler Award for Best Entry in Science History and the Thaddeus M. Smith Award for Best Entry on African American History. He will now compete at the state competition April 20 in Nashville.
Woodland Middle Forensics Team Performs Well at Tournament
The Woodland Middle School forensics team recently won fourth place Sweepstakes at the Father Ryan Invitational Tournament.

WMS Science Olympiad Team Qualifies for State Tournament
Woodland Middle School's 15 member Science Olympiad Team competed in the Regional Tournament at MTSU February 23. Each team member came away with at least one medal by competing in the 23 different events.
Overall, the team placed third in a group of 14 public and private middle schools. This qualifies the team to compete in the State Science Olympiad Tournament at UT-Knoxville April 6. Team members are Emily Berexa, Kaitlyn Mi, Rhea Jaisinghani, Max Behling, Revathi Panuganti, Alex Blattner, Karthik Pradeep, Peter Fons, Rohan Kunchal, Young Rae Kim, Jeevan Kypa, Stacy Xiang, Natalie Jospeh, Sithara Samudrala and Henrik Hahamyan.
