Below is a list of recent accomplishments by Williamson County students in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts. They are listed in alphabetical order according to school.
Brentwood High Student Wins Shakespeare Competition
The Brentwood High School portion of the 2012 National Shakespeare Competition was held on February 13 at Brentwood High School. BHS had 22 contestants this year. The contest is open to all ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth graders.
Lily Norton, an eleventh grader, won the BHS competition. She performed a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream as Helena. Lily will move on to the regional competition which will be held March 2 at the Troutt Theatre in Nashville. At that performance she must do A Midsummer Night’s Dream monologue and perform a complementary Shakespeare sonnet.
The winner of the regional competition will advance to the nationals in New York with an all-expenses paid weekend to perform for the chance to win a summer in London studying Shakespeare.
Centennial High Athletes Sign College Letters of Intent
Congratulations to the following Centennial High School soccer players who recently signed letters of intent to play soccer in college. Their coach a CHS is Sandy Pollock.
Haley Klages will play at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Kayla Hunt will play at the University of North Alabama. Paxton Parker will play at the University of South Alabama.
Centennial High Students Earn Honors at DECA Competition
Congratulations to the Centennial High School students who participated in the DECA Regional Competition in Hendersonville February 4. DECA is a student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Chapman's Retreat Elementary Student Wins Spelling Bee Title
Chapman's Retreat Elementary School Student Liam Keck won first place in the school's annual spelling bee. Keck is pictured below on the left. He is joined by Aaron Hunt who also participated in the spelling bee.
Fairview Elementary School Crowns Spelling Champs
Congratulations to the winners of Fairview Elementary School's annual Spelling Bee. Pictured below from left to right are second place winner Elizabeth Pennington, first place winner Zach Norris and third place winner Rebecca Boles.
Fairview Middle Holds First Annual Spelling Bee Competition
The first annual Scripps Spelling Bee competition was held January 18 at Fairview Middle School. Thirty students from grades six, seven and eight won class and grade-level bees to qualify for this final competition.
After 13 rounds, Joel White won the title of Fairview Middle School Spelling Champion and Shirley Ni won the title of runner-up.
Franklin High Students Recognized at DECA Competition
Congratulations to the Franklin High School students who won honors at the Regional DECA Competition. DECA is a student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Students Shine at Hunters Bend Elementary Spelling Bee
Hunters Bend Elementary School named the winners of its annual Spelling Bee. They are Davis Beasley, Eileen Hsu and Tia Lartz.
Independence High Students Earn Honors at DECA Competition

Lipscomb Elementary Students Win Spelling Bee
The winner of the 2013 Lipscomb Spelling Bee was Fourth Grader Lily Batey (left). Fifth Grader Corina Crowe was the runner up.
Longview Elementary Crowns Spelling Bee Champs
Longview Elementary School held its annual fourth and fifth grade Spelling Bee in January. Pictured below from left to right are Fourth Grade Teacher Lauren Ignomirello, Mr. and Mrs. St. Clair with their daughter Karme (2nd place winner), Mrs. Martin with her son Daniel (1st place winner), PJ Mazera (School Board member), Fourth Grade Teacher Kari Barrett and Assistant Principal Bronwyn Rector.
Ravenwood High Swimmers Win Medley Relay State Championship
Ravenwood High School Swimmers Ted Curtiss, Alex Goss, Reece Boyd and Grant Stafford defeated Baylor School for the State title in the Medley relay. They swam an All American Time and broke their own school record.
This great performance helped Ravenwood secure second place overall at the State Tournament behind Baylor School. Ravenwood is currently ranked number in the state in swimming among public schools.
Ravenwood Senior Competes at Junior Olympics
Ravenwood High School Senior Llyod Hancock showed off his fencing skills at the 2013 Junior Olympics in Baltimore, Maryland. He qualified for the prestigious event by placing second last month at a competition in Chattanooga.
While at the Junior Olympics, Lloyd was listed in the top 50 percent of competitors following the pools competition, losing only to highly ranked A fencers.
Lloyd competes in the type of fencing known as epee, which is often considered the most difficult to defend. He says he intends on fencing in college. His coach at Ravenwood is Rusel Hayes.
Scales Elementary School Crowns Spelling Champs
Congratulations to the winners of Scales Elementary School's annual Spelling Bee competition. Phoebe Young won first place and J.B. Seiters finished second. They are pictured below with Principal Molly Dalgarn as they received their awards.
Scales Elementary Students Qualify for Regional History Bee Competition
Scales Elementary School Students William McNeilly, Luke Boyer, Maddy Hensley and Shelby Thayer have qualified to attend the Regional History Bee competition in April at Martin Luther King Magnet School in Nashville.
Westwood Student Wins Public Speaking Contest
While the thought of speaking in front of a large crowd might frighten the majority of us, it's a challenge Westwood Elementary School Fifth Grader Austin Davenport embraces. Austin recently won first place in the annual 4-H Regional Public Speaking Contest.
Austin won the school, city and county competitions for the right to compete in the regional contest, which featured 20 finalists from 10 counties across Middle Tennessee. Austin is a student in Felicia Mears fifth grade class at Westwood.
Woodland Middle School Forensics Team Earns Honors
Congratulations to the Woodland Middle School forensics team who won fourth place sweepstakes at the Farther Ryan Invitational Tournament. Finalists were:

WMS Students Place at Math Counts Regional Contest
Woodland Middle School's Math Counts team recently competed at the regional contest in Nashville. The team represented by Ray Lee, Eric Lu, Stacey Xiang and Kaitlyn Mi placed third overall. Individual rankings were as follows:

Kaitlyn Mi - 7th
Stacey Xiang - 8th
Barbara Xiong - 12th
Matthew Conley - 20th
Ray Lee and Eric Lu will advance to the state level on March 16.
