Brentwood Soccer Coach Named TN Coach of the Year
Brentwood High School Girls Soccer Coach Cal Long has just been named Girls Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the Tennessee Large Public School division.
Under his guidance, the Lady Bruins won the district, region and state championships. The team finished the season ranked sixth nationally.
Centennial Teacher Named News 2 Educator of the Week
Centennial High School Teacher Debra Odom has been named the News 2 Educator of the Week. Odom has taught Jobs for Tennessee Graduates at Centennial for the past eight years. She was nominated by her students for the award that was created to recognize the state’s outstanding educators.
Odom will be featured December 20 on WKRN News 2's 10 p.m. newscast and again December 21 during the 6 a.m. newscast. She will also be entered into the contest for News 2's Educator of the Month.
Fairview Middle Students Earn Recognition at Model UN Conference
Fairview Middle sent twelve students to Model United Nations November 12. The students are Noelle Bates, Logan Johnson, Alex Robinson and Andrew Warren from eighth grade; Rhianna Mann, Sophie Matthews and Chris Guardo from seventh grade; and Katie Gilchrist, Sally Johnson, Maggie McGowan, Mason McGowan and Ethan White from sixth grade. They wrote and presented resolutions while acting as delegates from other countries.
Noelle Bates and Andrew Warren received the Outstanding Resolution Award for their representation of Chile. Alex Robinson's and Logan Johnson's resolution for Indonesia was ranked in the top twenty and went on to the General Assembly.
Franklin High Students' Work Published in Journal
Franklin High School Senior Lauren Souter is making a name for herself among members of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica. Souter’s poem El árbol amado was published in the latest issue of ¡Albricias!, the journal of the national organization.
Souter submitted works to ¡Albricias! twice last year, and now both of her pieces have been published. The issue is available online at http://www.aatsp.org/?page=AATSPublication (select the link for ¡Albricias!).
Middle College Students Impress Judges at Art Exhibit
Middle College High School Junior Kelsey Denney recently placed third in the 11th grade painting category at the annual Middle TN Regional Student Art Exhibit. The event is held each year at the Renaissance Center in Dickson. Denney received a $10,000 scholarship to Cumberland University.
MCHS Student Sam Starr won the Best Computer Graphics category and was awarded his choice of either a $5,000 per year scholarship to Cumberland University or a $4,000 per year scholarship to Watkins College of Design. He also received a $50 check and a gift certificate to Plaza Art Supply.
Ravenwood Forensics Team Wins 1st in Collierville
The Ravenwood High School Forensics Team recently traveled to the Collierville High School Invitational Tournament and placed first among the 18 schools that competed. The team had a total of 55 entries. Out of those 55, 20 made it to the finals with 12 placing in the top three. The individual results are as follows:

Winstead Students Compete in Mini Mu Math Competition
Thirty-two fourth and fifth graders from Winstead Elementary School competed with 500 other WCS students in the Mini-Mu Math Competition at Brentwood High School December 1. Awards were given to the top 20 of each session. Winstead winners include Josh Bolden (20th place Session II), Tucker Tremayne (11th place Session II), Tayler Montiel (14th place Session II) and Jacob Williams (1st place Session II).
Woodland Middle Students Earn Top Honors at Model UN Conference
Congratulations to Woodland Middle School students Meagan Broder, Rhea Jaisinghani and Sithara Samudrala. They represented the country of Rwanda at this year's Model United Nation's conference and were voted first in their committee of 25 countries. WMS students Nathaniel Croft and Scott Baron represented Italy and were voted second in the committee. Other winners from WMS include:
