Brentwood Students Win Titans of Taste Video Contest
For the second straight year, Brentwood High TV and Film students have won the Titans of Taste video contest, sponsored by the Tennessee Titans, Purity Dairies and the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association.
Juniors Mary Jane Aycock and Marshall Travioili produced a 30-second commercial encouraging students to eat healthy and get at least one hour of exercise each day.
As a result of their win, they received four sideline passes and tickets to an upcoming Titans football game. In addition, the Brentwood High School TV program will receive $1,500.

Brentwood Teacher Receives Distinguished Award
Brentwood High School Latin Teacher Diana Tomayko has been named the recipient of the Tennessee Classical Association's 2012 Distinguished Latin Teaching Award.
Centennial Junior Chosen Most Outstanding Student at Youth Leadership Conference
Congratulations to Centennial High School Junior Kendall Burr for being chosen as the Most Outstanding Student at this year's Youth Leadership Conference.
Burr was selected to attend after competing against other JROTC nominees from the Middle Tennessee area. The event is sponsored by the Military Order of the World and was held this year at the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center.
"What is noteworthy is that Kendall not only attended, but was selected through a competitive process as the overall Most Outstanding Student out of 200 participants at the conference," said Colonel Mike Goodwin, Centennial's JROTC instructor. "Kendall is representative of the great students we have in the Centennial JROTC program."
The Youth Leadership Conference is designed to prepare the participants for a life of exemplary citizenship and service to their community, all with a passion for American values.
Edmondson Students Win Big in Chess Competition
Two Edmondson Elementary School students showed off their prowess in the game of chess at a recent competition.
Nelson Rose finished 5-0 and won first place at the Mid-State Scholastic Chess Championship November 10. Parker Kasiewicz finished in seventh place with a record of 4-1. Both students competed in the third-fourth grade division.
Edmondson Educators Named Girls on the Run Co-Coaches of the Year
Two Edmondson Elementary School educators were awarded a special honor November 8. First Grade Teacher Lauren Henderson and Counselor Nancy Rose were named Co-Coaches of the Year from Girls on the Run Nashville at the Girls on the Run Evening of Gratitude.
Girls on the Run is a 12-week before or after school program for third through fifth grade girls. The program uses the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
Through interactive activities such as playing games, running, discussing health, wellness and other important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being girls. The girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team-building to help them become strong, confident, well-balanced young women.
Franklin High Band Named Semifinalist at Bands of America Grand National Championship
The Franklin High School Marching Band impressed the judges at one of the nation's premier high school marching band competitions. Franklin High was named a semifinalist this month at the Bands of America Grand National Championship in Indianapolis.
Franklin High advanced to the semifinal round where it was awarded second place among all Class AAA bands. The Franklin High School Band has 174 members and is under the direction of David Aydelott.
FHS Student Awarded $40,000 Scholarship
Franklin High School Senior Quentin Eastridge was awarded a four-year scholarship to O'More College of Design in Franklin.
The scholarship was given to Eastridge for winning Best of Show at a recent contest sponsored by the college. More than 50 Tenessee high school students competed in a number of graphic, web and motion design categories during the O'More College of Design's first ever Verve show.
Eastridge's submission called "Censorship Paranoia" won top honors, while fellow Franklin High School student Jessica Price won silver and gold awards in the poster design category.
Sunset Middle School Students Named to MTVA Middle School Honor Choir
Congratulations to the eighth grade Sunset Middle School students who were recently named to the Middle Tenessee Vocal Association's Middle School Honor Choir. They include Nina Kindrachuk, Will Exler, Lauren Reed, Reed Ulery and David Walker. Each student auditioned for the part. They are scheduled to perform at the MTVA Elementary/Middle School event on January 29.
WCS Teacher Named Reward School Ambassador
Walnut Grove Elementary School Teacher Karen Wight is one of 15 educators statewide who has been named Reward School Ambassadors. Wight will work with neighboring schools to share best practices, improve student achievement and reduce achievement gaps.
In order to become a Reward School Ambassador, each teacher must have earned the top score on Tennessee’s teacher evaluation, have been nominated by their school and completed a competitve application and interview process.
The ambassadorship is a year-long, paid position. Reward Schools whose nominees were selected into the ambassador cohort will also receive a $20,000 grant to further their educational programming.
WCS Food Service Director to Attend USDA's Public Safety University
Williamson County Schools Food Service Director James Remete has been selected to represent Tennessee at the 2013 USDA Public Safety University.
Produce Safety University is a one-week, all expenses paid training course for USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service State agency and local school district partners and is held at USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service campus in Virginia.
This training center provides unique opportunities for hands-on training related to purchasing, processing and preparation of fresh produce.
