Lipscomb Student Among Winners of Character Under Construction Poster Contest

Lipscomb Elementary School fifth grader Drake Austin was a winner in the county-wide Character Under Construction poster contest. This annual event gives students an opportunity to show off their artistic skills while helping to promote important character traits.

Drake's poster highlighted the importance of the character word Cooperation. Pictured with Drake is Diane Wauford, School Counselor; Deb Finch, School Counselor; Michelle Contich, Principal; and Ann Marie Schulz, Assistant Principal.

Ravenwood Forensics Team Recognized by National Forensics League

This week the Ravenwood Forensics Team earned significant recognition from America's oldest and largest high school speech and debate honor society, the National Forensics League. Because the team achieved more than 200 degrees last year, it placed in the top five percent of NFL chapters nationwide and has earned official designation as a member of the League’s prestigious 200 Club.

Degrees are achieved based on speaking points the team members have earned at tournaments they attended during the year. With a team of approximately 50 students, Ravenwood's team moved an average of four degrees per competitor.

Ravenwood Marching Band Wins Grand Championship

Congratulations to the members of the Ravenwood High School Marching Band. This past weekend, they competed with bands from Kentucky and Tennessee in the KMEA competition in Logan County, Kentucky.

The band, colorguard and percussion finished first in the AAAAA class. The percussion was named the top scoring percussion section in the competition, and the band was named the grand champion, receiving the highest score in the competition.

Franklin High School Marching Band Wins Awards at Competition

The Franklin High School Marching Band competed against other bands from across the state at this year's Columbia Central Marching Invitational. Franklin High won the following awards:

Franklin High Teacher Wins Scholarship

Franklin High School English and Latin teacher Bill Leachman recently received the Aliene Click Professional Development Scholarship from the Tennessee Foreign Language Teaching Association (TFLTA).

This is Leachman’s first year to teach Latin at Franklin High School. The scholarship includes registration for the TFLTA conference in November plus a workshop and meals during the conference. The award is designed for first-time attendees to the conference.

WCS Students Selected to Attend Boys and Girls State

More than a dozen Williamson County students participated in this year's American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxillary Girls State. High school juniors are selected to attend the programs, which educate students about local, county and state government.
