Ravenwood's Gene Li Attends NJCL Conference

Ravenwood student Gene Li was a huge contributor for the Tennessee delegation at the National Junior Classical League Convention at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Gene placed second in the nation on Latin Reading Comprehension Level I.  He also finished sixth in ancient geography level I, eighth in Latin vocabulary level I and tenth in Latin Derivatives level I.

On nearly every test he was the highest or second highest scoring student from Tennessee.  He was also on a team that won second place in novice open certamen (certamen is "quiz/knowledge bowl" for Latin).

Centennial's Lauren Lauder Receives Award

Congratulations to Centennial High School senior Laura Lauder for being awarded the Franklin Tomorrow's Youth Initiative Award.

Laura was nominated for the award as a result of her dedication to Habitat for Humaity.  Lauder not only volunteers on site, but she is the youngest crew leader out of 50 others.

She is responsible for helping coach the volunteers on site in accomplishing tasks and does so with a natural willingness to be helpful. Lauder also serves on the construction committee of Habitat of Williamson County and served as president of the campus chapter at Centennial High School.  She recruits other students to be involved with the Habitat High Build, which occurs every February and includes nine high schools from Williamson County.

Franklin High Students' Work Published in Journal

Lauren Souter and Hannah White, current Franklin High School seniors and members of the FHS chapter of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, were published in the latest issue of ¡Albricias!, the journal of the national organization.

Each student’s essay focused on the life and work of a Hispanic Nobel Peace Prize winner: Adolfo Pérez Esquivel and Oscar Arias Sánchez.

The issue is available online at http://www.sociedadhonorariahispanica.org/ (select the link for ¡Albricias! and then scroll down to the Spring 2012 edition).
