Abby Shipley - Longview Elementary School
Ten year-old Abby Shipley is a highly motivated student who's always pushing herself to do better. It's that sort of relentlessness that led administrators and teachers at Longview Elementary School to name the fourth grader as their Academic All-Star.
"Abby has consistently shown motivation and effort at school each day since the beginning of the year," said Longview Teacher Danielle Morabito. "She is determined to do well, and will persevere without giving up."
Abby began attending Longview in kindergarten after her family moved to Spring Hill from California. She says the two things she enjoys most about the school are the assemblies and the teachers. She also likes reading, which happens to be her favorite subject.
When she's not in school, Abby spends a lot of time playing outside with friends and family. She also likes animals, which is good considering Abby hopes to be a veterinarian when she grows up.
But no matter what career she chooses, Abby's teachers say she's sure to excel thanks to her strong will and work ethic.
"Abby is a student who wants to succeed for all of her teachers, her parents and herself," said Morabito. "We are proud of Abby and her will to accomplish all she can at school."
Kaitlyn Crosby - Scales Elementary School
Scales Elementary School fifth grader Kaitlyn Crosby has been selected as her school's Academic All-Star for the 2012-13 school year. Having attended Scales since kindergarten, Kaitlyn says her experience at the school has been amazing.
"Everyone at Scales is very nice," said Kaitlyn. "The teachers are great. If you do really well on a subject they'll challenge you, and if you're struggling in a subject they'll pull you aside and help you."
Kaitlyn's favorite subject is math because she enjoys solving problems. She also likes art and says she might even want to be an art teacher when she grows up.
Kaitlyn's teachers describe her as a bright, dedicated and enthusiastic student who comes to class each day with a smile on her face. They say she's not afraid to ask questions or help out a classmate in need.
"Kaitlyn is a very responsible, diligent student," said Sclaes Teacher Debbie Heiman. "She perseveres when solving problems and wants to understand the correct answers and methods when she makes mistakes. Kaitlyn portrays all the character qualities that we want a student to have."
