WCS Students Design Campaign Logo

Published February 23, 2012

Students from across the district recently gained some real world experience when they collaborated to develop a logo and marketing strategy for the "What is IT?" campaign.

With approximately 1,000 information technology (IT) jobs in the Middle Tennessee area that are currently unfilled, the "What is IT?" campaign is designed to generate awareness among students about current and emerging technology careers.
In December, Williamson County high school students with experience in digital design, media, website design, technology or marketing were asked to apply for a spot on the Student Technology Logo and Marketing Design Team. Those who were selected were given a month to develop and design a logo and marketing strategy that would effectively communicate the various facets of IT including graphic design, computer aided design, media, programming and robotics.

The design team, which consisted of students from Centennial, Independence, Page and Ravenwood high schools, met once a week to brainstorm and share ideas. Staff from a local graphic design firm called Birdsong Creative and professionals from the Cool Springs Chamber of Commerce helped facilitate the meetings. On February 2, the students presented their top three logos to a panel of judges that selected their top choice.

Organizers were impressed by the students' hard work and creativity and say they hope to use the logo in various ways including print media to generate interest and excitement in IT.

"I am so proud of these students and what they have accomplished," said WCS Career and Technical Education Coordinator Jackie Baggett. "This is something to celebrate."
