TN Granted NCLB Waiver

Tennessee is among 10 states that have been granted a waiver from the No Child Left Behind law. Under the deal, the states must show they will prepare children for college and careers, set new targets for improving achievement among all students, reward the best performing schools and focus help on the ones doing the worst.
WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney says he’s pleased with the announcement and he’s hopeful we can use the lessons learned from NCLB to carefully consider future changes at the state and national level.
“It is critical we proceed carefully and methodically as we all work to improve educational opportunities for our students,” said Looney. “Too often, we quickly jump on ideas and solutions which have not been fully vetted for the sake of change.”
