Rumor Mill-5021

Published April 26, 2012

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.  If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of IN FOCUS.  Below are some of the questions we received since our last issue.

My daughter is in the eighth grade.  She has been told by some teachers if she fails her TCAP test she will have to attend summer school.  Is this true and if so why have the parents not been notified?

According to a measure approved by the Williamson County School Board at its March 15 meeting, any eighth grade student who fails one or more core courses (English, math, social studies and science) and falls below the 70th percentile on the TCAP assessment for the respective course must attend summer school.  In addition, Williamson County Board POLICY 4.603 states that school personnel would have final approval of grade placement.

I have a fifth grader who will be taking the TCAP soon.  What will happen if she is sick and has to miss school during that time?

The district has developed a procedure for students who are absent during the TCAP assessment.  It was outlined in a letter sent home to parents earlier this month.  Select this LINK to view the letter.
