The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating. If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of IN FOCUS. Below are some of the questions we received since our last newsletter.
Has there been any progress made about building a new high school in Nolensville?
The Williamson County School Board will discuss the Five Year Capital Outlay Plan which determines construction projects during its November 21 meeting. We will share that information in the following issue of IN FOCUS.
With all the new home construction going on everywhere I am wondering how the schools are going to handle the overflow that seems will be occuring in the future. Most of the schools are overcrowded now. Just in the Edmondson area I know there are close to 200 homes being built.
The Williamson County Schools Zoning Specialist stays in contact with all Planning Municipalities across the district. This is to keep up with new developments as they are approved. This data is used to calculate enrollment projections for each school for several years. The enrollment projections are reviewed closely to determine the need for new school buildings or the need to rezone in order to balance school enrollment. Several of our schools may still have overcrowding due to grandfathering students as a result of the most recent rezoning. It usually takes two to three years for the grandfathered students to complete their time at their out of zone school and for the enrollments to reach the desired capacity.
