Regional Teacher of the Year

Published March 8, 2012

Centennial High School English teacher Heather Hayes is this year's Mid-Cumberland Regional High School Teacher of the Year. Hayes was selected for the honor among educators from 12 school systems.

"It feels incredible to be honored for something that I am passionate about and committed to doing on a daily basis," said Hayes. "So many people have supported my career throughout the years and I wish I could attach their names to this honor as well."

Hayes says there are many reasons why she enjoys her job, but it is her interactions with her students that mean the most.

"Without a doubt, my favorite aspect of teaching is building relationships with my students," said Hayes. "I have been teaching long enough now that some of my former students are very dear friends of mine."

Hayes will now be considered for Teacher of the Year honors for the state of Tennessee.
