Mustang Closet

Students at Scales Elementary School in Brentwood are gearing up for the Third Annual Mustang Closet. The Mustang Closet is a clothing drive that benefits underprivileged students at Scales' partner school Warner Elementary in East Nashville. This year's event will be held September 12-16.
"The Mustang Closet creates an opportunity for the children at Scales to share with other children," said Organizer Leigh Ann Witt. "Hopefully, it will also help them to be more aware of needs within their community."
Students at Scales Elementary will collect clothing before and after school for three days. At the end of the week, parent volunteers will set up a clothing fair at Warner Elementary so that each student will get to pick out several clothing items for free, including jeans, coats, belts and shoes.
Scales is not the only Williamson County School to have a clothing drive. Both Kenrose Elementary and Sunset Elementary participate in similar events each year. Organizers say they'd like to see other schools get involved as well.
"Our hope is that we can be a model for other schools that want to adopt this concept," said Witt. "If every school would reach out and partner with another school, the impact of giving and sharing would explode."
Anyone wishing to donate items to the Mustang Closet can drop them off at Scales Elementary School from September 12-14. Select this LINK for a video featuring last year's Mustang Closet.
