Grants to Help Students Walk Safely to School

Published February 9, 2012

In the last issue of IN FOCUS, we told you about plans to build a new MULTI-USE TRAIL for students in Spring Hill.  Turns out, that's not the only project in the works that will help Williamson County students walk or bike to school safely.

According to the Nashville Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the cities of Nolensville and Fairview are among the areas in Middle Tennessee that will receive grant money to improve pedestrian walkways to and from area schools.  Below is a look at how much money each city will receive and how it will be spent.

  • City of Nolensville:  Will receive $178,035 for greenway construction to provide safe pedestrian and bicycle connectivity among residential, Nolensville Elementary School, Nolensville Ball Park, the Historic District and commercial Town Center and the Williamson County Recreation Center.

  • City of Fairview:  Will receive $496,000 to construct approximately one mile of sidewalk along the north side of Old Franklin Road between Fairview Blvd. and Chessington Drive, along with painted crosswalks, crosswalks to safely connect students in a nearby residential area to Fairview Elementary School.
