Funding Survey Results

Published January 12, 2012

Williamson County Schools conducted a survey of residents from December 1, 2011, through December 15, 2011, as part of the Williamson County School Board Strategic Plan.  The plan calls for the district to increase the revenue flow to allow for more education opportunities for students.  The survey was to help staff determine the general knowledge of stakeholders regarding the budget process and funding of the school district, and it was created by district staff and the PTO Leadership Committee.  More than 1300 Williamson County residents participated.  This is a first in a series of articles about the WCS budgeting and funding process.

Purpose of the Survey

The Williamson County Board of Education’s Strategic Plan involves looking for nontraditional forms of revenue to maximize the learning potential of all students by offering exemplary programming for academics, the arts and athletics.  The Board recognizes that it takes more than what the tax dollar provides to fund this type of education.  In addition to the operating budget, individual schools charge fees and conduct fundraisers to enhance educational opportunities at the school.  School PTOs, PTAs, PTSOs and other booster clubs are deeply involved in raising funds as well.  The Board is analyzing the feasibility of creating an education foundation.  As a first step in this process, the district is looking to get a general understanding of the community’s knowledge of an individual school’s budget and the school district’s budget and what each of those budgets fund.
