Educators to Develop Foreign Language Curriculum

Published July 19, 2012

Educators will soon start work on developing a foreign language curriculum for the district.

The Williamson County School Board voted July 16 to allow two Chinese educators to come to WCS to help develop a Chinese language curriculum. At the same time, the district's foreign language specialist will begin developing a similar curriculum in Spanish.

Once they've finished, district leaders will examine the results and make a final recommendation about whether Chinese or Spanish should be taught to students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

The effort is part of the district's Strategic Plan which calls for the development and implementation of a world language curriculum at the elementary, middle and high school levels in order to increase fluency in foreign language.
