The Brentwood High School portion of the 2012 National Shakespeare Competition was held January 25 at the school.  The annual contest is open to all ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade students.

Brentwood Senior Shelby Buscher won this year's competition by performing a scene from Hamlet.  Shelby will move on to the Regional Competition March 10 at the Troutt Theatre in Nashville.  Sigfried Schlunk placed second and Natalie Bennie finished third.

"All the students competing this year were excellent in artistic skill, understanding and in communication to the audience," said Lee Huddleston, Brentwood High School teacher and organizer.

Judges included Jean Hevel, senior English and speech teacher and Town Centre actor; Jean Klein-Kracht, senior Honors and AP English Teacher; and Huddleston, senior AP English Literature Teacher.

The winner of the regional competition will advance to the national competition in New York with an all-expense paid weekend to perform for the chance to win a summer in London studying Shakespeare.
