Claiborne Fowler is a fifth grader who is known throughout Winstead Elementary as a model student in both academics and peer relationships. That's why she was recently chosen to be the school's Academic All-Star for the 2011-12 school year. "We are proud to give Claiborner this honor," said Fifth Grade Teacher Shelley Massey. "Claiborne strives for excellence every day in her assignments and in her classroom conduct. She is an excellent listener and group project member." Claiborne began attending Winstead in third grade and says her favorite subject is social studies. |
When she's not in school, Claiborne likes to play the violin. She's been taking lessons for five years and says learning how to play music has even helped her in other ways. "We have to memorize every song before you can go to the next one," said Claiborne. "That actually helps me with my school work because I can memorize things more quickly." Claiborne is also passionate about writing and says she wants to be an author when she grows up. But in the meantime, Claiborne says she'll keep working hard in the classroom. "You have to get a good education in order to get a good job," said Claiborne. "If you don't try your best, it's probably not going to turn out well." |
