Academic All-Stars-5013

Published April 12, 2012

This week's Academic All-Stars come to us from Nolensville Elementary, Oak View Elementary, Pearre Creek Elementary, Ravenwood High and Scales Elementary schools.  This honor is bestowed upon students who regularly show a good attitude and a dedication to their studies.

NOLENSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 Alex Estes

Fifth grader Alex Estes has been named the Academic All-Star for Nolensville Elementary School.  Principal Ryan Harris says Alex's friendly personality and strong work ethic made him the perfect candidate for this award.

“Alex arrives every day with a smile, eager and ready to learn," said Harris.  "He puts forth the needed effort, giving 100 percent each day.  This year, Alex has demonstrated academic independence and growth which has encouraged Alex’s confidence."

Harris says Alex has shown remarkable improvement in areas like reading, writing and math, which just so happens to be Alex's favorite subject.

Alex says he has enjoyed his time at Nolensville Elementary and looks forward to attending Sunset Middle School in the fall.  Outside of school, Alex likes to read and do homework as well as play soccer with his friends.  He says his ultimate goal is to one day be a doctor.

OAK VIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 Abby Goble

Oak View Elementary School fifth grader Abby Gobble is a hard working student and talented athlete who always tries her best at everything she does.  That is why school administrators selected her as the school's Academic All-Star.

“Abby’s performance in the classroom is exceptional," said Principal Dr. Tom Morris.  "Not only is she a dedicated student, but she is also a terrific athlete who excelled in the Oak View basketball league."

Abby says she loves going to school at Oak View and will miss all of the wonderful teachers there when she heads off to Page Middle School in the fall.

Abby says her favorite subject is math because she likes the challenge of working with numbers.  In addition to participating in the Oak View basketball league, Abby is on the school track club and sings in the school chorus.   When she grows up, Abby hopes to be either a basketball player or a news announcer.

PEARRE CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 Ethan Ward

Third grade student Ethan Ward has been selected as Pearre Creek Elementary School's Academic All-Star.

“Ethan has had an excellent year, demonstrating ownership over his learning and desire to succeed,” said Principal Beth Ferguson.  “He has shown exceptional growth in reading, due to his strong desire and eagerness to grow.”

Before Pearre Creek opened in 2010, Ethan attended Winstead Elementary.  He says he loves the P.E. department at Pearre Creek and all the different sports that he and his classmates get to play.

Ethan's favorite subject is art because he likes to draw and play with clay.  At home, Ethan enjoys reading and playing outside with his brothers.  When Ethan grows up, he wants to be a car mechanic so he can work on all sorts of really cool cars.

RAVENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL

 Rhondell Walker

Whether he's studying health science or playing football, Ravenwood High School sophomore Rhondell Walker is always looking for a challenge.  That's why Rhondell was recently chosen as the school's Academic All-Star.

Those who know him say Rhondell is a dedicated student athlete who always puts education first.  This past year, Rhondell competed on both the Ravenwood football and wrestling teams.

Rhondell's favorite subject is health science.  He says he'd like to study medicine at Vanderbilt University, with hopes of one day becoming either a doctor or a physical therapist.

Rhondell says he feels fortunate to attend Ravenwood High School.  "The students and the teachers here are so nice," said Rhondell.  "They pep me up when I'm down and they're always there for me.  I really feel like I belong here."

SCALES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 Caroline Finger

When it comes to her school work, fifth grade student Caroline Finger always goes the extra mile.  That's why she was recently chosen as Scales Elementary School's Academic All-Star.

“Caroline is an outstanding young lady," said Principal Rick West.  "Her effort exceeds the classroom on a routine basis and her character as an individual inspires not only other students at Scales, but also reaches adults throughout the community.”

Caroline says her favorite subjects are math and science because they’re interesting and present a challenge for her when she’s studying in class.

While at school, Caroline participates in Encore, run club and volleyball.  Outside of school, Caroline likes to play outside and spend time with her family.  Caroline will attend Brentwood Middle School in the fall and says she's excited to make new friends.  When she grows up, Caroline wants to be either a doctor or a teacher.
