Academic All-Stars-4998

Published February 23, 2012

This week's Academic All-Stars come to us from Hillsboro School.  Because Hillsboro is a K-8 school, two students were selected for this honor with one representing grades K through five and one representing grades six through eight.  This honor is bestowed upon students who regularly show a good attitude and a dedication to their studies.

HILLSBORO SCHOOL (ELEMENTARY)

 Madison McDowell

Fifth grade student Madison McDowell was recently chosen to represent Hillsboro School as the Academic All-Star for grades K through five.

“Madison is very respectful, thinks outside of the box, and is thorough with her work,” said Madison's teachers Elizabeth Pittsley and Kelly Davis.  “She is a positive person who always does her work with extra effort and is always willing to lend a helping hand.”

Madison says she likes attending Hillsboro School.  Her favorite classes include reading, math and science because she gets to do fun activities.

“I love getting to do different experiments,” says Madison.  “I also love taking notes and getting to learn stuff.”

When Madison grows up she wants to be an Athletic Director or a photographer.

HILLSBORO SCHOOL (MIDDLE)

 Aine Williams

Hillsboro seventh grader Aine Williams has been selected as the Academic All-Star for grades six through eight.

According to Hillsboro Teacher Chris MacDonald, Aine is an incredible writer who always goes beyond the assigned task.

“In all modes of writing, Aine finds a way to express her individual point of view and takes constructive criticism to heart, making her a better writer each day,” said MacDonald.  "Her wide ranging vocabulary, enhanced by her love for reading, is on display as she crafts any piece of writing.”

Aine and her family just moved to Franklin this summer.  She says she feels fortunate to attend such a great school.  Her favorite classes are art and language arts because she likes to incorporate her art with her writing.

Outside of the classroom, Aine loves to draw, read and work on different stories to improve her writing.  When she grows up, Aine says she wants to be either a writer or a car designer.
