Academic All-Stars-4988

Published February 9, 2012

This week's Academic All-Stars come to us from Hunters Bend Elementary and Independence High schools.  This honor is bestowed upon students who regularly show a good attitude and a dedication to their studies.

HUNTERS BEND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 Chance Cocke

Hunters Bend Elementary School chose fifth grade student Chance Cocke to represent the school as their 2011-12 Academic All-Star.

“Chance comes to school every day with a ‘want to learn’ attitude,” said Hunters Bend Elementary Teacher Celeste Grider.  “He is a sweet, caring and hardworking student.”

Chance’s favorite classes are science and social studies because he enjoys conducting experiments and learning about historic battles.  Outside of the classroom, he likes playing video games like Medieval War and role-playing games.

While he's enjoyed his time at Hunters Bend, Chance says he's excited to start middle school in the fall.

INDEPENDENCE HIGH SCHOOL

 Zoe Jackson

Independence High School Senior Zoe Jackson has been named the school's 2011-12 Academic All-Star.

“Zoe is one of those students who is very quiet but always has a great attitude and a love for learning,” said Principal Dr. Todd Campbell.

As for Zoe, she says she feels fortunate to have attended school at Independence High.

“The classes are pretty cool here, like psychology and the different sciences they offer,” says Zoe.  “The teachers are all pretty nice, too.”

Outside of the classroom, Zoe likes to spend time with her friends, babysit and volunteer as a nursery attendant at her church.

After graduation in May, Zoe plans to attend Spellman College in Atlanta where she hopes to earn a degree in early childhood education.  She says her ultimate goal is to be a kindergarten teacher.
