Academic All-Stars-4961

Published January 12, 2012

This week's Academic All-Stars come to us from Fairview Middle and Franklin High schools.  This honor is bestowed upon students who regularly show a good attitude and a dedication to their studies.

FAIRVIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL

 Melissa Hatcher
Fairview Middle School eighth grader Melissa Hatcher has been named her school's Academic All-Star for the 2011-12 school year.

According to her teachers, Melissa is someone who truly cares about learning and always works to the best of her abilities.

"If Melissa makes a mistake, she is the first to suggest that the work should be redone," said Fairview Middle Teacher Linda Chambers.  "She will ask questions until she understands what she needs to know and her work is always thorough and detailed."
Having lived in Fairview her whole life, Melissa says she loves the small town feel of the community and feels fortunate to attend a great school like Fairview Middle.

"The teachers here are amazing," said Melissa.  "They're all nice and they don't mind if you ask them questions for help."

Melissa's favorite subject is reading which is why she's excited to be part of this year's Battle of the Books competition.  She's also actively involved in chorus, the school's yearbook committee and the STARS program.

As for life after school, Melissa says she already knows what she wants to do for a living.  "I want to be a pediatric nurse," said Melissa.  "My mom and uncle are both nurses and I just really want to be able to help children."

FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL

 Shea Trammel
Franklin High School Junior Shea Trammel has been chosen as his school's Academic All-Star for the 2011-12 school year.

While Shea is well-known for his love of music, administrators say it's his determination to succeed and hard work in the classroom that earned him this special honor.

"Shea has really begun to apply himself and it has made a huge difference in his grades," said Franklin High School Assistant Principal Marlon Ruck.  "I am really proud of what he has accomplished."
Shea moved to Williamson County in ninth grade and says he feels fortunate to be a student at Franklin High.

"It's a really friendly environment and the people here are nice," said Shea.  "This year my favorite class has been U.S. History with Coach Johnson.  He's an awesome teacher and he makes it really enjoyable."

Outside of school, Shea says his main interest is music.  "I'm in the school band program here at Franklin High," said Shea.  "I'm also in a couple of bands around Franklin, including two punk rock bands and a jazz band."

Shea even says it was his love for music that provided him the motivation he needed to improve his grades.

"My goal is to go to the Berkeley College of Music in Boston," said Shea.  "I realized that these last two years of high school are really important to me if I want to go to the college of my choice."
