Academic All-Stars-4924

Published November 10, 2011

This week's Academic All-Stars come to us from Chapman's Retreat and Clovercroft elementary schools.  This honor is bestowed upon students who regularly show a good attitude and a dedication to their studies.

CHAPMAN'S RETREAT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Ian Hoffman
Third grade student Ian Hoffman has been named Chapman's Retreat Elementary School's Academic All-Star for the 2011-12 school year.

Ian's teacher says he's the perfect candidate for this award because he's always helpful and works hard in class.

"He has an optimistic attitude to learning under every circumstance," said Teacher Niki Owens.  "He follows all of the classroom rules and is an encourager to his peers.  Ian's smile lights up the room and his attitude is contagious."
Ian says he enjoys attending Chapman's Retreat because he has great teachers and has made a lot of new friends.  He says his two favorite subjects are reading and science.

"I like science because it's fun and you get to do a lot of experiments," said Ian.  "I'm also reading a series of books now called Warriors which is really good."

When he's not in school, Ian enjoys playing computer games and spending time with friends.  As for a future career, Ian says he hasn't completely made up his mind but he does have a few ideas.

"I was going to be someone who looks after animals like big cats but I don't really want to do that anymore," said Ian.  "I've also thought about becoming a cartoonist when I grow up but I don't know yet."

CLOVERCROFT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Katie Williamson
Clovercroft Elementary School fourth grader Katie Williamson has been named her school's Academic All-Star for the 2011-12 school year.

According to her teacher, Katie comes to school each day with a positive attitude and ready to work hard at every task.

"Katie gives 110 percent at everything she does," said Teacher Jen Kibbey.  "Her positive spirit and amazing work ethic make her a joy to teach every day.  Katie is also a kid of character and a wonderful role model for her classmates."
Katie's two favorite subjects are reading and social studies.  She says she likes social studies because she gets to learn about interesting people and places.  As for reading, Katie mostly enjoys nonfiction.

"I like to read biographies," said Katie.  "I recently read a book about Rosa Parks and I learned a lot of new things about her."

Katie attended Trinity Elementary before moving to Clovercroft at the start of the school year.  She says she's been surrounded by a lot of great teachers which is why she might like to be one herself someday.

"I want to be a teacher when I grow up," said Katie.  "I just think it would be great to help kids and teach them new things."
