Published May 26, 2011

Three Williamson County high schools are among the best in the nation according to The Washington Post. The newspaper's annual report evaluates and ranks the nation's top 1,500 high schools. According to The Washington Post, Brentwood High School was ranked 250 in the nation, followed by Ravenwood High at 532 and Franklin High at 1,078.

The Washington Post's Jaw Matthews began ranking his list of top U.S. high schools in 1998 using a special formula called the Challenge Index. The rankings are determined by taking the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests given at a school and dividing it by the number of seniors who graduate. The list represents less than six percent of the approximately 27,000 U.S. public high schools.

When compared to schools statewide, Williamson County performed exceptionally well. Brentwood High School was ranked third, followed by Ravenwood in fourth and Franklin tenth.
