Williamson County Schools is one of the top districts in the nation in online safety. That's according to the Safe Search Awards Program, which ranks the top 100 school districts in terms of which districts keep students safest online.

According to this year's rankings, Williamson County Schools is listed 34th in the nation, which is 10 spots higher than last year. Williamson County is one of only four Tennessee school districts to make the list. Much of the district's success has to do with its use of netTrekker, an educational search engine.

"The use of netTrekker provides students with safe digital resources and tools that help them achieve," said WCS Instructional Technology Coordinator Belinda Moss. "Each of these K-12 resources has been reviewed for academic integrity, age appropriateness and safety through personalized learning tools to match individual learning needs."

Williamson County Schools is dedicated to building strong digital citizens. In the 2009-2010 school year, Williamson County eighth graders made an average score of 380 in a measure of digital citizenship. The international average was 310.

"This 21st century responsibility to advocate and practice safe, legal and responsible use of information and technology is inherent in our instructional program," said Moss. "We applaud our teachers and our technology coaches for their continued efforts in growing strong digital citizens."
