Summit Principal Names Athletic Director

Ravenwood Head Baseball Coach Chad Kirby will be moving to Williamson County's newest high school to serve as its athletic director and baseball coach. Summit High will open in August 2011, and Kirby will join the faculty during the summer.

Kirby has been the head baseball coach at Ravenwood since 2008. During Kirby's tenure at the helm, the Raptors have captured two district titles, one region title and one state tournament berth. He has been an assistant football coach at Ravenwood since 2004 and was the defensive coordinator in 2005 and 2006 when the Raptors won the 5A State Championship and were State Runner Up, respectively.

“I’m thrilled to have a quality teacher, coach and person joining the Summit High family,” said Summit Principal Dr. Charles Farmer. “Chad’s credentials speak for themselves. I’m confident that Coach Kirby’s leadership will help make not only Summit High athletics, but the total school program, successful in the years to come.”

Before coming to Williamson County, Kirby taught and coached in Jonesboro, Georgia. He coached girls and boys basketball and was the head football coach and athletic director at Mundy’s Mill Middle School. Kirby was also an assistant baseball coach at Gordon College, and he played college baseball at Middle Tennessee State University under Steve Peterson where he was a member of three conference championship teams.

“I’m excited about starting a new athletic program,” said Kirby. “I know Summit High School will have great community support, and I look forward to building long lasting traditions for which the citizens of Spring Hill and Thompson’s Station will be proud.”

Kirby grew up in Lewisburg, Tennessee and graduated from Marshall County High where his high school baseball team won back-to-back State Championships in 1993 and 1994. He and his wife Kellee reside in Spring Hill with their two children Mackenzee and Jace.
