Summit High School has hired a head football coach. Former Smyrna defensive coordinator Scot Keasler will lead the Spartans next season.
Keasler has coached at Smyrna the last five years. During that stretch, the Bulldogs won 5A state championship titles in 2006 and 2007. They also finished as 5A state runners-up this past season, posting a 13-2 record.
Coach Keasler is originally from New Iberia, Louisiana. He played football and baseball at Barbe High School, in Lake Charles, LA. Upon graduation from Barbe High, Keasler became a member of the McNeese State University football team where his dad was the head coach. He transferred to the University of Louisiana at Monroe and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Human Performance. Keasler also holds a Masters Degree in Special Education from Belmont University in Nashville.
Coach Keasler’s coaching career began at Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge where he was defensive coordinator and coached both the offensive and defensive lines. After Episcopal, he coached at Denham Springs High School in Denham Springs, Louisiana. He coached the secondary and wide receivers for two years as well as serving as the Denham Springs defensive coordinator. Keasler was then lucky enough to make contact with Coach Tommy Tharp, who hired him at Sycamore High School in Pleasant View, TN. During his three year tenure at Sycamore, Scot was the defensive coordinator and coached both the secondary and wide receivers.
“I’m very excited about becoming the Head Football Coach at Summit High School," said Keasler. "I am aware that building a football program from the ground up will be a huge task, but I’m up for the challenge. I truly believe that with the right football staff, support from the administration and faculty, parents and the community we can put together a football program that we will all be proud of. Our goal is to produce not just outstanding football players, but outstanding citizens as well. It will be an all-around team effort.”
Summit Athletic Director and current Ravenwood Baseball Coach Chad Kirby says he's thrilled with the new hire. “We are very excited about Coach Keasler joining our athletic department," said Kirby. "He has championship credentials and we are looking forward to him building Summit football into a championship caliber program.”
