School Volunteer Information

Published November 11, 2010

A new feature that allows potential Williamson County Schools volunteers to pay for their criminal background checks online is now available. The district unveiled the option on its website November 4 with the hopes that it will improve the registration process.

"We've had requests from parents to be able to pay by credit card or debit card and this allows them to enter the information themselves online," said WCS Human Resources Director Judith Looney. "It also protects their personal information to a greater extent."

The district began the process of performing criminal background fingerprint checks in the spring as part of an effort to better protect students. According to the guideline, volunteers who have unsupervised contact with students on or off campus must complete a criminal background fingerprint check, at a cost of $40.

Anyone interested in becoming a school volunteer should visit the WCS Volunteers WEBPAGE to learn more about the process. To register and pay for the criminal background check online, applicants will need to select the link that reads "Volunteer Fingerprinting Process." Once they have completed the process, the applicant can print off a receipt and take it to one of four fingerprinting locations.
