Scam & Crime Alert

Published August 4, 2010

There is important information to pass along to parents and community members regarding recent events in the Williamson County community.

Scam Alert

In recent weeks, Williamson County Schools has received several reports of people going door-to-door selling educational products or services and representing themselves as interns or associates of the district.

"They are not our agents," said Williamson County Schools Chief Operating Officer Jason Golden.  "We are not selling educational products door-to-door for the coming school year and WCS is not conducting any system-wide fundraisers."

In one case, a parent says a woman knocked on her door claiming to be associated with Williamson County Schools and offering to tutor her children.  Again, no one from Williamson County Schools would be going door-to-door offering tutoring services.

It should be noted that many booster and PTO groups from individual schools regularly conduct fundraisers.  If you have any questions about any solicitation you receive, please give your principal or local law enforcement a call.  Each principal is aware of fundraisers that are being conducted on behalf of a particular school.

Crime Alert

The Franklin Police Department is offering a $500 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for recent auto burglaries in the Dallas Downs and Sullivan Farms subdivisions.  According to police, six vehicles in those subdivisions were broken into during the overnight hours July 30-August 1.  Each of the automobiles were left unlocked by their owners and valuables left inside were stolen.  Police would like to remind the public to be sure and lock their automobiles at night.

If you have any information about these crimes, contact Crime Stoppers at (615) 794-4000 or send an anonymous tip to Franklin Police by texting 615FPD and your tip to 847411.
