Rumor Mill-4828

Published July 21, 2011

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.  If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of IN FOCUS.  Below are some of the questions we received since our last newsletter.

I had heard that Ravenwood High School was considering going to an all uniform school.  Is this true?

Ravenwood High School does not have a standard dress attire, nor a uniform. Students are expected to dress in keeping with the school’s dress code policy.  The policy will be presented to students in the Red Letter Day packets.

Will the Page High junior and seniors still have bus service even if there are no middle school buses running to Page Middle?  The Bethesda area was rezoned for Summit and Spring Station, however the PHS juniors and seniors are not included in the rezoning.

Page High School juniors and seniors inside the Summit High School zone will continue to receive transportation to Page for the next two years.  At that time, Summit will have grades 9 through 12 and transportation will only be provided for Spring Station Middle and Summit High.

Can you please tell me the dates for Fall Break for Grassland Elementary School?

All Williamson County schools will observe Fall Break for the 2011-12 school year October 17-18.  Other important dates can be found by selecting the District Calendars link on the WCS HOMEPAGE.

Do parents have to provide a religious exempt form for immunizations before the start of every school year?

Tennessee law requires proof of immunization prior to a student's attendance at a school unless immunizations conflict with a parents religious tenets and practices.  The parent must given written notice of this conflict, affirmed under the penalties of perjury.  The school must have this writing on file, but the schools do not require a new form each year.

We have been advised that swimming is becoming a club sport in Williamson County schools.  What is the impact of this and why is it being done?

Since swimming is not a TSSAA sport, Williamson County Schools has removed swim coaches from its paid supplement list.  All club sports (hockey, rugby, lacrosse and swimming) will continue as in the past; with students from all of our schools participating in those sports as per rules and regulations for each club sport.
