Rumor Mill-4804

Published June 9, 2011

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.  If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of IN FOCUS.  Below are some of the questions we received since our last newsletter.

We have heard that school construction at Clovercroft Elementary School is behind schedule may not be completed in time for the new school year.  The rumor is that all students zoned for Clovercroft would be placed in trailers at Trinity as a temporary fix.  Is this true?  Do we know what the backup plan is if the school is not completed in time?  I know the whole intent of building this school was to alleviate the overcrowding at Trinity.

The opening of Clovercroft Elementary School is on time.  The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place Sunday, August 7 at 3 p.m.

I just wanted to get update on the progress of a new high school.  I haven't heard anything in several months.  Last I heard the county was still looking for property to build on.  What is the latest?

WCS continues to plan for a new high school in the northeast portion of the county.  The County Commission approved funding for the the purchase of property for the school, with a portion to be funded from existing projects that have not yet been completed.  Therefore, we are not yet ready to purchase any property, but we are searching for a site so that we are ready when funding is available.  The new high school is projected to open in the fall of 2014.

I have heard throughout this past school year that seniors will no longer have exam exemptions.  Is that true?  Also, if it is true, will students enrolled in AP classes that take the AP tests still be exempt from their exams in that class?

No discussions have taken place at this time.  These items may come up for discussion in the future.
