Regional Teacher of the Year

Published March 17, 2011

Brentwood High School English teacher Mark Baker is this year's Mid-Cumberland Regional High School Teacher of the Year. Baker was selected for the honor among educators from 12 school systems.

"I am overwhelmed by this honor to represent Williamson County Schools as the 2011 Regional High School Teacher of the Year," said Baker. "I am thankful for the opportunity to serve in this community, to work with our students and to interact with such supportive parents."

Baker says his love for teaching is kicked into overdrive each spring as his students conduct their own Socratic seminars on Emerson philosophy.

"It is during this time that I am reminded of how wonderful it is to see the magic happen in the hearts and minds of my students," said Baker. "I am rejuvenated as I witness young people embracing their ideas and their perceptions with empowering confidence."

Baker will now be considered for Teacher of the Year honors for the state of Tennessee.
