IHS Student Named Essay Contest Finalist

For the second year in a row, an Independence High School student has been named a regional finalist for the Bill of Rights Institute's Being an American Essay Contest.

Lindsey Hancock will be among those who represent the Mid-South region when the awards are handed out in March. She follows in the footsteps of Independence High School senior McKenzie VanMeter who won first place in the Mid-South Region last year.

The Bill of Rights Institute's Being an American Essay Contest was created in an effort to educate young people about the words and ideas of America's founders and how our founding principles continue to affect and shape a free society.

Participants were asked to write an essay which describes the civic value that is the most essential to being an American. Lindsey chose leadership as her topic. Because her essay was chosen as a finalist, Lindsay will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to attend the Being an American Essay Contest Awards Gala Celebration in March.
