Thousands of Williamson County students will benefit from a recent donation by Newell Rubbermaid. On September 10, representatives from the company's new plant in Shelbyville delivered 12 pallets of school supplies - worth $72,000 - to the district's Support Services building. The supplies included everything from pens and markers to colored pencils and highlighters.
Newell Rubbermaid partnered with a local transportation company, Titan Transfer, to deliver the goods. Officials say the donation is part of an ongoing effort to get Nashville and neighboring communities back on their feet following the May floods.
"We hope the product helps students and provides a little relief in the wake of such a disaster to our community," said Inbound Manager Jeff Fuller. "On behalf of all of us at Newell Rubbermaid, we want to thank Williamson County Schools for letting us be a part of the flood recovery efforts."
Principals were invited to load up on the goodies this week and get them into the hands of students.
"Our students are so grateful for all the wonderful pencils, pens, markers and Sharpies that Newell Rubbermaid donated to our school," said Bethesda Elementary School Principal Steve Fisher. "It's incredible that people we've never met would be so thoughtful and kind to donate all these great writing implements to our school."
