Authors Visit Local Middle Schools

Published May 12, 2011

A number of well known authors have been making the rounds at Williamson County middle schools.  One of the most recent appearances took place at Grassland Middle, where young adult author Roland Smith stopped by for a visit April 26.

Author of books like Journey of the Red Wolf and Jack's Run, Smith made presentations to the entire sixth and seventh grade classes.  Smith told them about the value of reading and research, and even had lunch with a few of the eighth graders in the library.

But he's not the only writer to visit Williamson County Schools in recent months.  Author Alex Flinn made a stop at Woodland Middle School May 5 to speak to the Book Club.  Flinn is the author of several young adult novels including Beastly, a New York Times Bestseller.  Flinn met with students, spoke to them about her profession and signed copies of her books.

Other authors who've taken time out of their schedule to speak to Williamson County students include author Obert Syke, who recently visited Spring Station Middle School and New York Times bestselling author and motivational speaker Andy Andrews, who traveled to Heritage Middle School in Thompson's Station.

Teachers say they're thrilled to have such well-known authors visit their students and hope the experience will encourage the kids to develop a life-long love for reading.
